LIFE IS ONLY FOR LOVE- " Saint Bernard"
February 2008 . These pages are currently undergoing a massive rebuild - most links disabled at present

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed.
President Dwight D Eisenhower

When we work as hard in peacetime to make this world decent to live in, as in wartime we work to kill, the world will be decent and the causes for which men fight will be gone
written by Agnes Newton Keith.....an American nurse and Japanese POW in WW11 from "Three Came Home"

Patriotism is not enough .. I must have no bitterness or hatred towards anyone

Nurse Edith Cavell (1865 - 1915 )

Personal Statement
While I recognise the tension that exists between war and peace and the endless search for what defines 'Just War' it remains the case that all over the world the innocent suffer at the hands of weapons of warfare. At the same time I respect the courage and selflessness of those who have gone to fight tyranny and oppression and given up their lives in the cause of freeing others. These are difficult issues to weigh and I have never had to put my proverbial money where my mouth is. However, an enormous amount of money is being made in this world through the manufacture and sale of weapons to the very same unstable regimes that Western leaders proclaim to be tryants, and to countries where the basic needs of a population go unmet. I did and still do object to the war waged on Iraq and I lament the loss of lives of Iraqi people and Allied Forces. The question is not so much who owns weapons of mass destruction but who makes and then sells them.Investors profit from the sales. Among those investors can be found many of our Local Councils, Universities, Charities, Health Trusts, Churches ... heavily invested in weapons manufacture ..

Lists of investors can be downloaded from the CAAT website.

Campaign Against Arms Trade is working for the reduction and ultimate abolition of the international arms trade, together with progressive demilitarisation within arms-producing countries.
